How should lithium hydroxide be stored?

Created on 07.08

1. Storage Precautions

Lithium hydroxide is highly corrosive. It can cause eye burns and corrode the respiratory tract, digestive tract and skin, and may lead to death in severe cases. Although lithium hydroxide is non-combustible, its strong corrosiveness can cause severe burns to human bodies.
In case of skin contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and rinse the affected skin with plenty of running water, then seek medical treatment promptly. In case of eye contact: Flush eyes thoroughly with plenty of running clean water or normal saline, followed by immediate medical consultation.
In the event of leakage from containers or storage areas holding lithium hydroxide, isolate the leaked zone. Emergency responders must wear dust-proof respirators and acid/alkali-resistant protective clothing, and avoid direct contact with the leaked material.

2. Handling & Storage Instructions

Operators must receive professional training and comply strictly with standard operating procedures when handling lithium hydroxide. Full-face respirators, acid and alkali resistant protective suits and corrosion-resistant gloves shall be worn to prevent contact with hazardous substances. Emergency response equipment shall be readily available on site.
For storage: Keep lithium hydroxide in a dry, clean warehouse or storage room, away from fire sources, heat sources and direct sunlight. All packages must be tightly sealed. Store separately from substances that may react with lithium hydroxide. The storage area shall be equipped with containment facilities to collect leaked materials.
